> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.

# Pay a vendor abroad

> Pay a vendor in another country from Send money, with the details each international option asks for

![Payment quote for a vendor abroad: \$3,600.00 sent in USD, and the amount they get in CAD.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/k5maP8xPODHl5ToY/images/illustrations/admins-bill-pay-international-payments-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=k5maP8xPODHl5ToY\&q=85\&s=162e10cf220803cc08e3bde4f415a04c)

From **Payments** → **All payments**, use **Send money** to pay a vendor abroad by choosing an international option for the vendor's account. Company Admins and Bookkeepers can send international payments, and so can Accounts Payable users once Every has turned that role on for your company. The steps every payment shares are on [Send money](https://docs.every.io/admins/bill-pay/payment-methods.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> Every turns on **International via Visa Plus** and **International via Nium** company by company. If you don't see them, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) to ask about them.

## Before you begin

Each option shows its own timing when you choose it. Which ones you see depends on your company:

| Option | Timing shown | You see it when |
| - | - | - |
| **International via Visa** | Variable, 5 to 7 business days | Every has set it up for your company |
| **International via Visa Plus** | Variable, 5 to 7 business days | Shown in place of **International via Visa**; the two options never appear together |
| **International via Nium** | Variable, 3 to 5 business days | See the availability note above |
| **International via Pershing** | Variable, 5 to 7 business days | Your company's Treasury account is ready |

**International via Pershing** pays from your money market account, so your company needs a Treasury account first (see [Treasury](https://docs.every.io/admins/banking/treasury.md)).

## Send an international payment

**1. Open Send money**

Go to **Payments** → **All payments**, then select **Send money**. For the other ways in, see [Send money](https://docs.every.io/admins/bill-pay/payment-methods.md#open-send-money).

**2. Choose the vendor**

In **Select Recipient**, choose the vendor, as in [Send money](https://docs.every.io/admins/bill-pay/payment-methods.md).

**3. Add the international account**

In **Recipient Account**, select **Add new account**, then choose the international option.

**4. Enter the account details**

Enter the details the option asks for (see [What each option asks for](#what-each-option-asks-for)), then select **Add account**. Every selects the new account, and next time you can choose it from the vendor's saved accounts.

If **Recipient Account** says Every holds no bank details for the vendor and lists the account types, choose the international option there, enter the details and select **Next**.

**5. Enter the amount**

In **Amount**, enter how much to send. What the step shows depends on the option (see [Amount](#amount)).

**6. Complete the accounting details**

Fill in **Accounting Details** as in [Send money](https://docs.every.io/admins/bill-pay/payment-methods.md). It doesn't ask the W-9 (The IRS form a U.S. vendor or contractor fills in to give a business their name and TIN) question for **International via Visa**, **International via Visa Plus** or **International via Pershing**, and for **International via Pershing** it adds a question and an invoice (see [its accounting details](#extra-accounting-details)).

**7. Review and pay**

On the review page, select **Confirm & pay**. To change something first, select **Back**.

If **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, the international options are on **Payment Method**, before **Amount**, and you enter the account details on **Recipient Details**, after it. **International via Nium** isn't offered there.

## What each option asks for

On **Recipient Account**, each option's form asks for the vendor's address, then their bank details. Have these ready:

| Option | What to have ready |
| - | - |
| **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus** | The vendor's address, their bank's country, the currency and the payment type (Swift or Local). The form asks for bank details by country and currency, such as an IBAN (International Bank Account Number: the standard account number format many countries outside the U.S. use). A BIC/SWIFT code (A code of 8 or 11 characters that identifies a bank in an international payment) is another example. So is a sort code (The 6-digit number that identifies a bank and branch in the United Kingdom). The form asks for a payment purpose when the country and currency have purpose codes (A code that tells banks the reason for a payment) |
| **International via Nium** | The vendor's address, the currency, the payout method (Local, SWIFT or Wallet) and the bank details that country and currency need. A field marked (optional) can stay empty. Once you choose the account, **Payment Purpose** appears on **Recipient Account** |
| **International via Pershing** | The vendor's address, their bank's name, its SWIFT / BIC, the IBAN or account number and the routing number (The 9-digit number that identifies a U.S. bank in ACH payments, wires and checks). Select the checkbox that authorizes Every to initiate the international wire transfer (A payment that moves money directly from one bank to another, one payment at a time) |

If **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, its **Recipient Details** step uses some different labels, such as **SWIFT code** for **SWIFT / BIC**.

![International via Pershing account details, with the recipient's address, bank details and authorization.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/19nP2pdcB7HMtcYU/images/screens/admins-bill-pay-international-payments-account-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=19nP2pdcB7HMtcYU\&q=85\&s=cb132d80271c136e6b7aa786f91c9e97)

## Amount

| Option | What **Amount** shows |
| - | - |
| **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus** | **You send**, in USD, with **Amount available** beside it, and a field labeled with the account holder's name, such as "Acme Ltd gets". Enter either amount and Every fills in the other. For a currency other than USD it shows the rate: what 1 unit of that currency costs in USD. For USD it says "Additional fees may apply" |
| **International via Nium** | **You send**, with **Amount available** beside it, and a field labeled with the account holder's name, such as "Acme Ltd gets". For a currency other than USD, once Every has a rate, it also shows the exchange rate, the market rate, the markup (A charge built into the rate used to exchange one currency for another) and the total fees |
| **International via Pershing** | One amount field, with **Money Market Balance** beside it, and no rate |

## Extra accounting details

For **International via Pershing**, **Accounting Details** can ask **Are you paying a vendor?**. If the question appears, choose the answer that describes the payment.

When **Upload invoice** appears, upload the invoice you received. It accepts PDF, JPEG, PNG and GIF files, and the payment needs it.

## What happens next

After you select **Confirm & pay**, a payment with approvers shows "Payment sent for approval" (see [Approvals](https://docs.every.io/admins/bill-pay/approvals.md)). Without approvers, when **Send money** has a **Recipient Account** step, an international payment shows "Payment submitted for processing", and its status reads **Submitted**. Company Admins and Bookkeepers can follow an **International via Pershing** payment on [Treasury](https://docs.every.io/admins/banking/treasury.md).

If **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, what you see without approvers depends on the option:

| Option | What you see |
| - | - |
| **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus** | "Payment has been submitted to Visa". Once the payment is submitted, its status reads **Submitted**, with "It might take 2-3 days for the funds to show on the recipients account". A failed payment shows "Your international payment failed" |
| **International via Pershing** | "Payment is being processed", with "It can take 7-10 days for an international wire to be received. You can track the progress on the Treasury Page." |

## Troubleshooting

> [accordion] Why does it say my country isn't supported?
>
> **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus** don't support that country and currency combination. The alert reads "Country not supported" and says to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

> [accordion] What's the minimum amount I can send?
>
> The message shows the minimum when your amount is under it. For **International via Visa** or **International via Visa Plus**, it starts "The minimum amount to send is" and gives the minimum in USD. For **International via Nium**, it gives the minimum and its currency, such as a message that starts "Amount must be at least".

> [accordion] What's the maximum amount I can send?
>
> **International via Nium** can have a maximum, which depends on the currency. The message gives the maximum, such as one that starts "Amount must be at most".

> [accordion] Why does it say I've gone over my daily or monthly limit?
>
> The amount is over your company's daily or monthly limit. The message says "Daily limit" or "Monthly Limit", shows the limit's amount and ends with "exceeded."

> [accordion] Why does it say Insufficient Funds?
>
> The amount is more than the balance it's paid from: your money market account for **International via Pershing**, your checking account for the others. The message shows that balance and ends with "Insufficient Funds."

> [accordion] Why is my SWIFT code rejected?
>
> The **SWIFT / BIC** for **International via Pershing** isn't a valid 8- or 11-character SWIFT code, so Every shows "SWIFT must be 8 or 11 alphanumeric characters". A US bank's SWIFT / BIC isn't accepted: pay by **Wire** instead.

> [accordion] What do I do when International via Nium is unavailable?
>
> On **Recipient Account**, select **Retry**. Every shows "Nium is currently unavailable" there.

## Agent reference

**Where:** International payments are part of **Send money**. Start **Send money** from **Payments** → **All payments** → **Send money**, or from **Banking** → **Checking account** → **Move money** → **Send money**. The sidebar calls **Checking account** **Overview** when the **Banking** menu has no **Credit card** item. Only Company Admins and Bookkeepers can use the **Banking** path; an Accounts Payable user starts from **Payments**. The international options are under **Add new account** on the **Recipient Account** step when **Send money** has one, and on the **Payment Method** step when **Send money** has that step instead. The steps every payment shares are on [Send money](https://docs.every.io/admins/bill-pay/payment-methods.md).

**Who:** Company Admins and Bookkeepers can send international payments, and so can Accounts Payable users once Every has turned that role on for the company. A person who holds none of those three roles can't open **Send money**. Every turns on **International via Visa Plus** and **International via Nium** company by company.

### Facts

* **Send money** has either a **Recipient Account** step or, in its place, a **Payment Method** step and a **Recipient Details** step.
* **International via Visa** on **Send money** shows "Variable, 5-7 business days".
* **International via Visa** on **Send money** is offered once Every has set it up for the company.
* **International via Visa Plus** on **Send money** shows "Variable, 5-7 business days".
* **International via Visa Plus** on **Send money** is offered where Every has turned it on for the company. Some companies see it in place of **International via Visa**, and no company sees both.
* **International via Visa Plus** uses the same form, **Amount** step and review as **International via Visa**.
* **International via Nium** on **Send money** shows "Variable, 3-5 business days". Every turns it on company by company.
* **International via Nium** isn't offered when **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step. That step's list holds **ACH**, **Wire**, **Check**, **International via Visa**, **International via Pershing** and **Request from vendor**.
* **International via Pershing** on **Send money** shows "Variable, 5-7 business days". It's offered once the company's Treasury account is ready.
* **International via Pershing** pays from the company's money market account, not its checking account.
* When **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, that step asks "How would you like to pay them?" It shows "Variable, 5-7 business days" on **International via Visa** and on **International via Pershing**, and it reads **International via Visa Plus** in place of **International via Visa** where Every has turned that on for the company.
* On the **Payment Method** step of **Send money**, **International via Visa** (or **International via Visa Plus**) is offered under the same conditions as on **Recipient Account**, and **International via Pershing** once the Treasury account is ready.
* On Send money's **Recipient Account** step, the list shows the vendor's saved accounts and an **Add new account** button. Selecting **Add new account** opens the **Add new account** dialog, which asks you to select a type and enter the account information. Its buttons are **Add account** and **Cancel**.
* After you add an account on Send money's **Recipient Account** step, Every selects the newest account.
* On Send money's **Recipient Account** step, the account type picker in the **Add new account** dialog tags an account type the vendor already has with "Used Before".
* On Send money's **Recipient Account** step, a saved **International via Visa** account is listed as "International Payment - Visa", and a saved **International via Visa Plus** account as "International Payment - Visa Plus". A saved **International via Nium** account is listed with "International Nium" after its name, and a saved **International via Pershing** account with "- Wire" after its name.
* On **Recipient Account**, a saved **International via Pershing** account whose bank is a US bank is shown as "Invalid account" and can't be selected.
* When **Recipient Account** says Every holds no bank details for the vendor, for a vendor with no saved accounts, it shows the account types on the step itself instead of **Add new account**, with the same international options under the same conditions. Selecting **Next** saves the account.
* The **International via Visa** form, on Send money's **Recipient Account** step, has three sections: **Recipient Address**, **Banking Information** and **Additional Information**.
* The **International via Visa** form's **Recipient Address** section asks **Country**, **Address**, **Secondary address**, **City**, **State or province** and **Zip Code**.
* The **International via Visa** form's **Banking Information** section asks **Bank Country** and **Currency**. When the currency is USD, the **Currency** field says "Additional fees may apply".
* The **International via Visa** form's **Banking Information** section asks **Payment type**, with the options **Swift** and **Local**, and **Account type**, with the options **Individual** and **Business**.
* For an **Individual** account, the **International via Visa** form asks **Account Holder Name**, **First Name** and **Last Name**. For a **Business** account it asks **Company Name**.
* The **International via Visa** form asks for the beneficiary's country, address, city, state or province and zip code, under the labels **Beneficiary country**, **Beneficiary address**, **City**, **Beneficiary state/province** and **Zip Code**.
* The **International via Visa** form then asks the bank fields for the country, currency and payment type. They depend on those choices and include fields such as **US Routing Number**, **Account Number**, **IBAN**, **BIC/SWIFT Code** and **Sort Code**.
* The **International via Visa** form asks **Payment Purpose** under **Additional Information** when the country and currency have purpose codes.
* When a country and currency combination isn't supported, the **International via Visa** form shows a "Country not supported" alert that says to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io), and the **Add account** button is disabled.
* The **International via Nium** form has two sections: **Recipient Address** and **Banking Information**.
* The **International via Nium** form's **Recipient Address** section asks **Beneficiary Country**, **Address**, **City**, **State or province** and **Postal code**. A field that isn't required is labeled "(optional)".
* The **International via Nium** form's **Banking Information** section asks **Destination Currency** and **Payout Method**, with the options **Local**, **SWIFT** and **Wallet**.
* The **International via Nium** form's **Banking Information** section asks **Destination Country** only when the currency is used in more than one country.
* The **International via Nium** form's **Banking Information** section asks **Account Type**, with the options **Individual** and **Corporate**.
* The **International via Nium** form then asks the bank fields that country and currency need, and labels the ones that aren't required "(optional)".
* When you choose a saved **International via Nium** account, **Recipient Account** shows a **Payment Purpose** card.
* When **International via Nium** isn't available, **Recipient Account** shows "Nium is currently unavailable" and a **Retry** button.
* The **International via Pershing** form, on Send money's **Recipient Account** step, has two sections: **Recipient address** and **Bank details**.
* The **International via Pershing** form's **Recipient address** section asks **Country**, **Street address**, **Apt, suite, etc. (optional)**, **City**, **State** and **Postal code**.
* The **International via Pershing** form's **Bank details** section asks **Recipient type**, with the options **Vendor**, **Employee**, **Contractor**, **Landlord** and **Subsidiary**, then **Bank name**, **SWIFT / BIC**, **IBAN / Account number**, **Routing number** and **Local routing code (optional)**. It asks **Payment code** for countries that have payment codes.
* Under **SWIFT / BIC**, the **International via Pershing** form counts the characters typed and says it must be 8 or 11.
* The **International via Pershing** form ends with a required checkbox: "I authorize Every to initiate this international wire transfer on my behalf and confirm that all provided details are accurate."
* The **International via Pershing** form requires **IBAN / Account number** and **Routing number**, and a **Bank name** of at least 3 characters. It rejects an invalid 8- or 11-character **SWIFT / BIC**, and it rejects the **SWIFT / BIC** of a US bank.
* When **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, its **Recipient Details** step for **International via Pershing** asks **Country**, **Street**, **Street 2**, **City**, **State**, **Zip code**, **Recipient**, **Bank name**, **SWIFT code**, **IBAN / Account Number** and **Routing number**. When the vendor has no saved **International via Pershing** account, the step also has a checkbox labeled "Accept terms & conditions".
* The **Amount** step of **Send money** asks "How much do you want to send?"
* For **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus**, **Amount** shows **You send** in USD, with the checking balance beside it labeled **Amount available**, and a field labeled with the account holder's name, or the vendor's name when the account has none, such as "Acme Ltd gets". Entering either amount fills in the other.
* For **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus** with a currency other than USD, **Amount** shows the **Rate**: what 1 unit of the vendor's currency costs in USD. When the currency is USD it says **Additional fees may apply**.
* When **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, **Amount** for **International via Visa** has a **Currency** list beside the vendor's field. With a **Recipient Account** step, it shows the currency code there instead.
* For **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus**, the amount must be at least the option's minimum. The message starts "The minimum amount to send is" and gives the minimum in USD.
* For **International via Nium**, **Amount** shows **You send** in USD, with **Amount available** beside it, and a field labeled with the account holder's name, or the vendor's name when the account has none, such as "Acme Ltd gets". For a currency other than USD it also shows the **Exchange rate**, what 1 unit of that currency costs in USD, once Every has a rate.
* For **International via Nium** with a currency that needs conversion and a rate, **Amount** also shows **Market exchange rate**, **Markup rate**, **Cost at market exchange rate**, **Markup cost** and **Total fees**.
* For **International via Nium**, the amount must be within the currency's minimum and maximum. The messages give the amount and its currency, such as ones that start "Amount must be at least" or "Amount must be at most".
* **International via Visa**, **International via Visa Plus** and **International via Nium** amounts must also be within the company's daily and monthly limits. The messages say "Daily limit" or "Monthly Limit", show the limit's amount and end with "exceeded."
* For **International via Pershing**, **Amount** is one amount field with **Money Market Balance** beside it and no quote.
* The **Amount** step blocks an amount above the balance with a message that starts "Checking Account Balance:" or "Money Market Balance:", shows the balance and ends with "Insufficient Funds." The balance is the money market account for **International via Pershing** and the checking account for the other international options.
* The **Accounting Details** step of **Send money** is headed "Enter accounting details".
* **Accounting Details** can ask **Are you paying a vendor?** for **International via Pershing**. When the question appears, it needs an answer: **Yes, I am paying a vendor** or **No, I am transferring money to an account owned by our company**.
* **Upload invoice** can appear on **Accounting Details** for **International via Pershing**, including when **Are you paying a vendor?** doesn't appear. When **Upload invoice** appears, it asks for the invoice received from the recipient and lists the accepted formats: PDF, JPEG, PNG and GIF. The payment needs the invoice, and another file type is refused with "Invoice must be a PDF or image file (JPEG, PNG, or GIF)".
* **Accounting Details** doesn't ask the W-9 question ("Can Every collect a W-9 from this vendor for tax purposes?") for **International via Visa**, **International via Visa Plus** or **International via Pershing**.
* **Accounting Details** asks **Memo for Recipient** and **How many people should approve this bill?** for an international payment as for other payments. A Company Admin can choose **No approvers needed**.
* The **When should this bill be paid?** section doesn't appear for an international payment. Only ACH and **Request from vendor** payments can be scheduled.
* The review page of **Send money** is headed "Payment for" and the recipient's name, such as "Payment for Acme Ltd", and has **Confirm & pay** and **Back**. For **International via Visa**, **International via Visa Plus** and **International via Nium**, that name is the account holder's, or the vendor's when the account has none.
* For **International via Visa**, **International via Visa Plus** and **International via Nium**, the review page of **Send money** shows a field labeled with the account holder's name, or the vendor's name when the account has none, such as "Acme Ltd gets". It also shows **You'll be charged** in USD and, for a currency other than USD, the **Exchange rate**, what 1 unit of that currency costs in USD.
* When **See breakdown** appears on the review, select it to open the details; the button becomes **Close breakdown**. For **International via Nium**, the breakdown includes **Market exchange rate**, **Markup rate**, **Cost at market exchange rate** and **Markup cost**.
* For **International via Visa** and **International via Visa Plus**, the review's **Payment type** reads **International via Visa** or **International via Visa Plus**, and its details list Account holder, Account number, IBAN, SWIFT / BIC, Sort code, Routing number and Bank country when they're set. For **International via Nium**, **Payment type** reads "Nium".
* For **International via Pershing**, the review lists Bank, SWIFT / BIC, IBAN / Account number, Street, City, State, Postal code and Country, and its payment type reads "Wire".
* On the review page of **Send money**, a **Payment processing** card says "Once confirmed, the payment moves into processing and may take two to three days to be paid." It shows for **International via Visa**, **International via Visa Plus**, **International via Nium** and **International via Pershing**.
* After **Confirm & pay**, an international payment with approvers shows "Payment sent for approval" and "This bill payment request has been routed through approvals." An international payment with approvers shows this screen in place of the option's own confirmation message.
* After **Confirm & pay**, when **Send money** has a **Recipient Account** step, an international payment without approvers shows "Payment submitted for processing" and "We sent this payment to the bank. We'll update the status on the Transactions page once it's confirmed." The badge reads **Submitted**. This holds for **International via Visa**, **International via Visa Plus**, **International via Nium** and **International via Pershing**.
* After **Confirm & pay**, when **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, **International via Visa** or **International via Visa Plus** without approvers shows "Payment has been submitted to Visa" and "Your payment has been submitted for processing. You'll be notified once it's confirmed." Once the payment is submitted, the badge reads **Submitted** with "It might take 2-3 days for the funds to show on the recipients account".
* When **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, a failed **International via Visa** or **International via Visa Plus** payment shows "Payment failed" with "Your international payment failed".
* After **Confirm & pay**, when **Send money** has a **Payment Method** step, **International via Pershing** without approvers shows "Payment is being processed" and "It can take 7-10 days for an international wire to be received. You can track the progress on the Treasury Page." The badge reads **Processing**.
* Company Admins and Bookkeepers can follow an **International via Pershing** payment on **Banking** → **Treasury**, whether **Send money** has a **Recipient Account** step or a **Payment Method** step. An Accounts Payable user can't open **Treasury**.

### Questions people ask
